A line of severe thunderstorms sweeping across Texas has caused significant disruptions to holiday travel, with numerous flight delays and cancellations reported at major airports.
The National Weather Service issued a severe weather warning, predicting high winds, hail, and the potential for tornadoes.
The most significant impact is expected in the region east of Dallas, stretching towards Houston and into parts of southern Arkansas and Louisiana.
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport experienced the brunt of the disruptions, with nearly 90 flights delayed and over two dozen canceled early Thursday morning.
Similar delays and cancellations were also reported at Dallas Love Field and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
“There is a possibility of one or a few tornadoes,” warned Brian Hurley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center.
“However, the primary concern is high winds, with gusts expected to reach 60 to 80 mph, and large hail.”
The storms are expected to move into southern Arkansas and western/northern Louisiana after nightfall, posing a significant safety risk to evening travelers who may have limited visibility and reduced awareness of the severe weather conditions.
This news report provides a concise and informative summary of the severe weather event and its impact on holiday travel.
